Dear Applicant,
Again in 2009, the Washington Council of the Blind plans to award scholarships to blind college or voc-tech school students in the State of Washington. In the past we have awarded scholarships of up to $4,000.
Eligibility requirements include:
(Please note: Legal blindness is defined as an individual who has a visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the corrected eye and/or 20 degrees or less visual field in the corrected eye. Individuals who are legally blind in BOTH eyes are eligible to receive a scholarship.)
First consideration will be given to those applicants who have not previously received a WCB scholarship, however, all legally blind persons admitted to academic and vocational training programs for the 2009-2010 school year are encouraged to apply. Before receiving a scholarship, recipients must provide proof of registration for the Fall Quarter.
For your general information, the Washington Council of the Blind is the oldest, largest and most active organization of the blind in Washington, with chapters throughout the state. Originally formed in 1935 as the Washington State Association of the Blind, we have operated continuously since that time. We work for the general well being of all blind people in the state. Our policy is that membership, or non-membership, in any organization of or for the blind will not be considered in awarding these scholarships.
