Randy Tedrow talks about his experience as a scholarship recipient:

“I received a WCB scholarship in 2007. This scholarship helped me finish my Bachelors of Science in Human Development from Hope International University out of Fullerton, CA.

The hardest part of winning the scholarship was sitting down and doing the simple letter writing. Once I’d submitted my letter expressing my interest in the scholarship; explaining my education goals, the rest (as they say) was easy.

I received a phone call from a scholarship committee member a short time after I sent in my letter of interest via email. I cannot recall who the caller was, but she was pleasant, friendly and quickly put me at ease. After all, I was nervous and hoped I wouldn’t screw up in the simple interview! Rather, she treated me as a friend with the questions not too difficult. It was more a getting-to-know-me conversation.

When the news I’d received a scholarship came through I was excited and looking forward to the WCB convention. The reception along with the banquet were fun and I got to meet other scholarship winners and learn how varied our educations and goals were at that time. I also learned how important education is to the WCB and how each of us can help achieve the goals of opportunity, equality and independence.”
